Modified King Post Trusses are a great truss design and are especially good for when more visual height is desired inside a room. The bottom chord of the truss is raised up the roof line, opening up the room visually. The downside is that the top chords of the truss must be increased in depth due to bending imposed by the bottom chord (or tie beam) being higher up. The amount that the bottom chord can be raised is limited to the bending in the top chord. Still, with the right design, truss spacing and local snow and wind loads, a modified king post truss is a great option.
