We were intrigued when the Hamanasi Resort in Belize contacted us about their timber frame project. How fun would it be to create a timber frame and travel down for the raising! Can everyone say vacation?
Not so fast.
The local craftsman wanted to provide the timbers, cut the joinery, and raise the frame. So we began with a contract on the design, engineering, and joinery details.
Once the drawings were ready, Launce Roberts, the manager at the resort, decided a site supervisor from Vermont Timber Works would needed… I have a feeling Doug was on the flight down before there was even a discussion about who would go.
The talented crew did beautiful work.
Santa Maria wood species, which is native to Belize, was chosen for the timbers.
Done! Wonderful experience and wonderful project!
The rest of the construction at Hamanasi Resort is still underway. They recently sent some progress shots, and everything looks amazing!

Timber framing in warm locations. We are headed to Atlanta, GA to raise a 48×120 barn next – stay tuned!
Very cool! Remind Tom to tweet pictures, it’s so much fun to see the progress as it’s happening!
